what is the POST-MODERN?

In all the pitches of culture: from lyotard to Habermas, to someone who tried to define that way of thinking. fonts are really important. thanks

Update:

for pedestal:

thank you for the answer, and sorry if i go deeper. what i understand of your definition is that post modern is simply the call of everything way to think everything else; also, i think that is really difficult to talk about modernism without including post.modernism in it. Post modern i think is another part of modernism project, that have not a failure with the world wars or the globalization or terrorism: for real, these are simply its developements i think. Like this, post modernism is only another narration called from lyotard in order to giustify is ignorance about this society. but this society is simplier more difficult like the ancient modern-state, because we are more, we are more rich, we are more involved in state life. In fact, the way to live is not different from late '800: yes, the problem are different, but the way to think it in terms of presence is only a conseguence of the metaphisical point of wiev, that Heidegger clearly explained. continue---->

Update 2:

-->. post modernism is the late crusching of early 900 sociology, that has really failed, and marxist thinking of '70. That has no implication with the real situation of thinking, that remained the same but bigger. There is not only a philosopher for an era now, but are all philosophers; and this created also this low thinkers. sorry for my english, i hope you will understand it.

Post Modern is unclear in definition. The Modern era comes from the Industrial Revolution. The Post Modern era is still developing as the Industrial Revolution has stopped changing our culture. Or has it?

The Post Modern era could be one of enlightenment and love of fellow human beings. I am not so sure that is happening, but we are getting closer. We are certainly smarter than ever before, but do we use it? We have access to knowledge like never before, but people still post questions on this board that they could look up themselves.

We all know now that every person on the planet is made the same way. We are all human beings no matter what we look like. But do we fully understand that? We are still prejudiced and hurtful to other cultures and religions.

The Post Modern era could be about more than Industry with the goal of obtaining money, but so far that does not seem to be true.

    Take care,

    Troy

    Reply to your further thoughts:

Post Modern is a new way of thinking that is correct. The difficulty is that we currently are unclear as to how that new way of thinking will be.

The Industrial or Modern Era created an industry at the cost of environment. Companies still pollute the environment and say that it is too expensive to stop the pollution yet their profits keep growing.

So far it is unclear whether society will vear away from the Industrial Age way of thinking or cling to it. The Archie Bunker mentality does seem to have faded. We are no longer sure of having a job for thirty years. A husband cannot bring in enough money to support his family without his wife working.

We have accepted many of the changes, but have we changed our way of thinking? We have come to accept two working adults in a household. We expect to change jobs a few times at least during our working life. We are more accepting of other races and ethnic groups. We accept that many of the jobs that used to be in America are now done around the world.

We still want our single family homes and our space. We have yet to forcefully push for companies to treat the environment ethically. We are still depending on a few people to enforce the laws that protect our environment. But at least we are buying hybrid cars rapidly.

My thought on the Post Modern world is that it will be a world community rather than just a local community. I think it will take time to get the world community fully accepted and fully understood. Eventually the economies of most countries will be on a more equal playing field and jobs will be plentiful around the world. This will be done by better utilizing and protecting our natural resources.

Are fonts important? That splinter view is essentially post-modern. The view itself, and splintered views in general.

Post-modern is anything from a font to an analytical assessment of a society (or an aspect or element of it)

The label may be awarded from the outside, or self-claimed. Condemning or praising, chic or bleak. .

If there is any way to put solid flesh on the term it is by looking at what it claims to have replaced: modernism.

An optimistic and unifying creed. Forward looking.

It was there in the industrial revolution, and in the winning of the American West. Its material and technological success became a main theme of powerful nations. While it forged on apace the other stories, of the rejected, the conquered, of the casualties of industry... had little in the way of a voice.

It was when it faltered, pehaps best seen in the technological horrors of the first world war, that the other voices, the other ways of looking at the world started to be noticed once more. If modernism was not leading to a golden future, but to terror and destruction, where should people turn? There was not one but a myriad of answers, leading to the merry maze or undefined chaos of post-modernism.

And if post-modernism be true, this is only one of almost an infinite number of ways of looking at it.
