Sony Cybershot DSC-W100 or Canon Powershot SD600? Which is the better camera?
I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-P73, but I dropped it a few weeks ago, and now the flash doesn't go off. I'd love to get it fixed bc it's an amazing camera, but no one will fix it for under $100.00. I figure if I'm going to spend that much on a repair, I might as well just get a new camera. I'm kind of partial to Sony, but my father and my best friend both have Canon Powershots and I like those too, but just don't have enough experience with them to determine if I like it better than the Cybershot.

The first thing you need to realize is certain cameras are better than others for indavidual users(shooting styles, options, ect..)I bought the Sony DSC W-100 about 6 months ago and am very pleased with the performance of this camera. The Zies lens and extremely fast shutter speed allow you to take some pretty great pictures. It is a 10 Mega pixel camera and although the 2gig dup-pro memory card was like another $69.00 I am glad I went with the Sony. I must confess I have never owned a Cannon (only Nikon's and Olympus') but the Sony has a very user friendly interface and the software that come with the camera is also very easy to use. When you put the camera in the manual setting there are so many options you can play with to get some really great results. Also, the video camera setting takes great videas. The Cybershot won me over within the first 5 minutes it came out of the box. Just my two cents. Good luck with your choice.

There is a lot more to cameras than megapixels. You also have to look at zoom, lens, manufacturer, and other features. In your case, I would go with the Canon. It has been my experience that Canons are some of the best cameras on the market. Canon's memory cards (I think they use SD cards) are, on the whole, cheaper then the Memory Stick Pro Duo cards than Sony uses (although memory cards everywhere are coming down in price.) I don't know that much about the particular models you mentioned, but, I would favor Canon (even though I own two Olympus cameras) over the Sony.

I agree, there is a LOT more to cameras than megapixels & if you buy soley based on how many megapixels you will more than likely very upset at the camera functions or picture quality. I have owned many SLR & digital cameras & I prefer the Sony Cybershot 1000 times over the Canon when it comes to a digital camera...as far as the SLR cameras I would not use anything but a Canon! Hope this helps...

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-T30 and it is an excellent digital camera. I really like it a lot, as it is very simple to use. The quality of the pictures are superb.

i have experience with both brands, not the models. i had the sony dscn-1 and now have the canon sd800is. i think the canon takes better pictures overall. plus the video clips are more compatible with editing software. the sony pics on auto mode came out too dark for me. i had to play with the brightness with every picture. the only downside is the canon wasn't fully manual. read reviews on both cameras on http://www.dpreview.com/
