Liberals want less goverment interference in issues relating to morals and social values.Is that bad or good f

I am a conservative but I am here to tell you that you cannot legislate morals. It is just not going to happen. The problem I see with our society today is that we are taking away personal responsibility. When people are not held accountable for their actions morality will indeed suffer. I think this is not a conservative or liberal problem, but rather a societal one. We are allowing our children to drown themselves in video games and endless hours of television. We spend less quality family time and expect the schools to teach morality, but at the same time hamstring their ability to enforce discipline in our classrooms. Rather than address behavioral problems we now medicate them. The list of problems goes on and on. Just blaming one side or the other is useless when what we really need to do is come together in the name of finding common sense solutions.

I want less interference in morals and social values because that is not the role for which government was intended. It is easy to be an evil SOB and still follow the laws with the excuse that "there is no law against it, so why shouldn't I?" When people start looking to the government to decide what is right and wrong, we are headed for all kinds of trouble--and as Jesus pointed out--the best laws are full of opportunity for evil and we should hold ourselves to higher standards. If the government limits lawmaking to stopping people from preying on one another, then people have to find their own values if they want to be moral, and can't use the government as a cop-out.

Besides, a lot of moral/social values are relative and debatale, and most pushing for them feel like their religion was the basis for our government (even though that is a huge, bald-faced lie from conservatives--people colonized America to escape exactly that kind of oppression). So we should be a free country, and allow people to pursue happiness in ways they would like, as long as they don't have to hurt anyone to do it. If you don't like the way a person acts (even though it doesn't hurt you), there is no rule saying you need to be their friend.

Not sure what it make you but. The Socialist ideology is a theory , fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and which holds forth beliefs that have no basis in reality. Under socialism, incentives either play a minimal role or are ignored totally. A centrally planned economy without market prices or profits, where property is owned by the state, is a system without an effective incentive mechanism to direct economic activity. By failing to emphasize incentives, socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail. Socialism is based on the theory that incentives don't matter! It's good, because morality is subjective. Laws to dictate morality based on one person's (or religion's) biases are extremely unfair to folks who don't share those same biases.

That's already assuming that the behavior in question doesn't actually harm someone else or deprive them of their property or personal civil rights. If those criteria are met, why should we create legislation above and beyond that?

But on the other hand, liberals want more government to force other people to behave and act in the manner they think they should, "for their own good" or "for the children" of course.

Less Government...period
