I have a Gateway and have had this problem.... Contact Gateway and tell them that you need a new DVD drive. They will ask you to do various tests (re-seat the drive, go buy a lens cleaning kit, check the drivers, etc.). Does your hard drive status light blink while the sound skips? Get back to me and I can help you out a little more. After talking to tech support a couple times I just fixed it by myself when they couldn't figure it out.

It appears like the two you haven't any longer have been given the DVD application, or your DVD stress is busted. in case you click on My laptop, and it acknowledges there's a DVD interior the stress then that's ok. i attempted finding for loose DVD decoder application, yet no luck. according to probability you uninstalled it by using twist of destiny. Does WinDVD strike a chord?

I would call Gateway. Hopefully it is still under warranty and they will replace it for you.
