6 yr. old wants to be an actress. Where do I start?

My child is very photogenic dramatic extremly smart. Everyone since day one has told me she should be on commercials ect..

Very fun loving could read well by age 4 1/2! Swear! I don't want to pay fees to sign her up seems she should be able to show her stuff and see what they say... Ive just now realized they have community theater. Good practice i would think..Seems a waste not to itleast give her a chance...

Update:

Where would i send pictures to and audition at? And yes I realize child actors tend to be screwed up but so do reg. people... I just hate to not "take a chance" She is super special and vivacious she should be able to express it to the max if she wants.

Update 2:

She also has started 2nd year of dance and has already been "discovered" by music teacher and was the only child out of 80 kids to do a solo in the 1st grade Kindergarten concert and she was the Kindergartener. She really is a trip..

I don't know about letting her be a child or whatever because I'm a teen and when I was little I would've loved an opportunity to try something new. I mean, if she doesn't like it, then she can just stop. I would just keep an eye out for signs that she doesn't want to do it anymore.

As for your question... I must say I don't know too much about this yet, but I would search some commercial auditions and such to try it out.

    ^.^ Good luck!

yes start off with commercials its the best foundation really. and she can get a feel for what it's really like. my younger sister could read by 4 and a half too! wow. let her go to the community theatre first before commercials for a while. it'll give her great practice. there are so many actors and actresses wishing they had done acting classes before they became famous because the ones that did are much better at it and at role playing.

The days of being discovered in a malt shop are long gone, so any advantage you can give your child, the better. That would include as many acting, singing, dancing, elocution, lessons as possible. A pretty face, a gregarious child, no longer mean much because there are lots of pretty, gregarious children also looking to become actresses and actors.

    Good luck.

I would defiantly enroll her in theater classes for children. Every child is different, some likes sports and others are into the arts. She will gain many skills and learn a lot about herself and she will gain a lot of confidence and meet new friends. If she turns out to not like it though, don't push her into still going to classes and trying to make her famous. That sort of experience could do a lot of damage in the long run. Let her choose her hobbies.

Do it if the child wants to. If she does, like many kids want to, encourage her, but do not be surprised when she wants out because of it being to stressful. If I had to give you any suggestions now, do not let her get too popular. As is the case with most child actors, they are not popular as adults. Let her do a lot of local theater, as well as taking some acting classes, but the best investment is to let her get popular in another twelve years.

Start by county fairs, things like dairy princess, small titles to get some accomplishments under her belt and see if she really likes putting in the work. My gut instinct is to say she's tooooo young, it's sad when kids start so young they don't get to be kids so just start out with the local stuff, maybe get her interested in a talent like baton twirling or something and then sign up to be in a parade or something. You could take pictures of her with any crown and just some cute ones and send them out to different places looking for kids in commericals, ad agencies, etc.

Just let her take classes. When she gets to about 10 years old, then she should start with some community theatre....most plays don't have very young children in them. I would also wait to see if this is what she really wants to do. Kids have a tendency to change their minds about things like this. Just let her have fun for now.....
