If you knew you were going to be homeless tomorrow?
Exhausted every and any job lead, filled out applications everywhere. Applied for and was denied food stamps (even though I have had my money taken every week for over 15 years, by our wonderful government, which is just all too content on rebuilding foriegn countries, and selling our jobs overseas, and to the border jumpers while we starve right here in this great country, that my tax dollars are fighting useless wars to "protect".) I can't join the military, I have epilepsy, we have no homeless shelters anywhere near where I live. I believe in God, I pray endlessly for any kind of work, financial security, hope... I even considered selling my soul to Satan (even though it is not mine to sell) just to ensure that I don't have to sleep outside and eat from garbage cans. I am at my wits end. Impending homelessness is humbling to say the very least... and it truly makes me question our country and it's capitalistic nature, land of the free, God, and why it is we have to scrape to get by.

There is a Burger King, Wendys, and Mcdonalds on just about every corner. How can you not get a job? Isn't there a Wal-Mart by you? They will hire anybody. In working 15 years, you didn't put money into an IRA? You didn't save any money? Your Avatar looks like you are a white guy. You can't get Food stamps in this country if you aren't a foreigner, of color, or female. Did you think of shacking up with an old lady and make her happy? Not haveing a job is no excuse. You can get a lawn mower for $30 and get that money back your first lawn job. Sorry, Tough Love here.

I was in a similar situation a few years back, very angry at everyone for my problems and, thought I had done everything possible to fix it.
After being regularly employed for 25 years I found myself with no where to go. Lots of interviews but, no one was hiring me. I was losing hope along with the possibility of losing my home.
I never thought I was going to be homeless but I was getting close. I did get mad... I was mad at myself for not making better arrangements just in case this kind of situation happened. And, worse yet, I had taken my 401K money several years earlier and spent it on stupid stuff. I also tried to blame the government and economy but, most of my friends and family were working and surviving just fine...
Finally, I quit doing the blame game and took a job I ordinarily wouldn't have considered. And, I redoubled my efforts to find suitable employment. It didn't work! From government to DOD to the private sector I think my count online was close to 400 applications. In desparation I told my wife I was going to apply for work anywhere and it might require a move that we can't afford! I also made sure that every application was followed by a personal phone or physical contact along with local applications handed out in person... You know, door to door.
In the end, after months, it was a simple phone call to an old friend which put me back in touch with reality and a job. My friend had heard from a friend who heard from a friend that this particular company was hiring.
The competition for work is huge these days, employers must be using resumes as toilet paper and it seems as though there is no future in sight. I say don't give up! Recall everyone, talk to your friends, aquaintences, old forgotten friends and people you don't like. Change that resume, don't count on any one responding on line and follow all leads! But, don't give up!
By the way, my first experience and very first question in Yahoo was about why, I couldn't get a job!

I'm not sure Australia's all that different. I've been from huge acrage and a big two story house to living in a car, then back up, then down to getting help from charity to eat. It is humbling, indeed. I think the system's a bit harder on the unemployed in America, so I'm not sure what to suggest, to keep off the streets. Surely there are enough $hitkicking jobs for you to get something? Even cleaning work? If you can get Internet access, I doubt you're completely out of options. Try giving up your home and travelling/living in your vehicle to find work. I did it for a bit, and got decent money doing seasonal work (i.e. fruit picking). They don't ask too many questions when they hire people.

I seriously doubt you *can't* find a job, McDonald's is always hiring! Even if you have to work a part time -minimum wage job for a few months, it's better than living on the streets! Try getting on at Wal Mart, Dollar Store, check out hospitals and nursing homes(they always need help)..Just keep on looking. I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck, but you won't be homeless. We'll all pray for you! GOOD LUCK!

Wow you do have problems, but they are yours and not our governments, people always blame God for their problems and the poor starving kids in Africa, God gives men their agencies
he gave us this planet and these bodies to use to work out our salvation this time here on earth is like a blink of an eye compared to eternity so use your time wisely and make the most of it.I defiantly sympathies with you I have been through hard times but never anything as bad as what you are dealing with.God gives us experiences in our life to try us and to change our character's.So good luck to you, try to remember that this life is short and you are going to be judged through the eternities by how you live it.

I once went to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society for help when I lived in New Mexico. They helped me with the quick fix thing (paying my rent for the next month) and were ready to help me find a job.
Community aid programs through churches can connect you with the help you need to help yourself. Good luck, and I hope that Christmas brings you the good news of regular work.

Depending on your personality and willingness to do this sort of work, you might consider looking on Craigslist (http://www.craigslist.com)/ for work in your area as a companion or personal caregiver.
There are lots of people with disabilities and elderly folks who need some assistance with daily living skills, personal care, shopping, housekeeping etc who do not have money to pay much (if anything) out... but who have an extra bedroom in their home and will trade this sort of care/assistance for room and board.
While there are plenty of women doing this sort of work as an adjunct to nursing, there are many young men and elderly men with disabilities who are not comfortable with women caring for them in that way.
There's not always poo clean-up and bathroom assistance needed... often just help getting in and out of bed, wheelchair, or just help with household tasks or assistance with transportation to appointments etc. Everyone's situation is different, but it's certainly something to explore, even if it's only temporary until you can find something else.
It's also possible to maintain a position like this for room and board and still take a few hours each day to work a part time job for cash for other expenses. Some folks only need assistance in the morning getting ready for the day... and again in the evening as they wind down for the night.
Also, a call to the Department of Medical Assistance (which is generally located in your state's capital - number available through directory assistance) who could give you the names of any Support Service Coordinators in your area for the Medicaid Waiver Programs. The Support Service Coordinators would have clients who would be seeking respite and in-home providers to work through the waiver... some offer room and board... or could, short term, for the right person... and the pay is currently about $10.85/hr (round the clock) in Virginia. Don't know what it is elsewhere.
Again... try Craigslist because some folks do advertise for room and board in exchange for assistance in their home. Good luck to you... and don't listen to the obnoxious folks telling you to sell your computer. Computers are virtually worthless and obsolete the moment you walk out of the store with them because they come out with something bigger and better every day of the week. I operate a dinosaur myself (5 years old with Windows ME) and I couldn't get two nickels for it :)

If you were in that situation, you would need to do like the border jumpers and go where the work is.

I do agree with you on the part of the government but the first thing you need to do is get rid of bills that are not a necessity... like your Internet.

I would be selling my computer instead of posting on Yahoo answers. Then, I would be calling everywhere I could for help.
