Average age dogs begin menstruation?

At what age do dogs usually begin to menstrate? I always thought that it was around 6 months old but my dog is over 8 months and still has not started. Wondering if there could be a health problem. What are some of the ages other peoples dogs have started and if anyone knows of health problems causing late start. Thanks ahead of time.

most of them start when they are 6 months but they have been known to start their heat when they are around 8-10 months. i have a golden retriever and she is 8 months and she still has not had her heat yet bu she should be coming in soon. there is nothing wrong with her so don't worry. there is no health problems with her not starting yet. please don't worry about her i go through this all the time with my female golden i breed and it does happen in most breeds. i hope that i made you feel better, and i hope you don't worry about this. as long as she is acting normal then nothing to worry about.

    Average Age Of Dogs

We have a 6 month old puppy and she hasnt started yet ( we do want to get her spayed soon though) the vet said they usually start around 8 months. Also my nieghbors got a dog ( same breed as our puppy) when she was 10 months old and then they spayed her when she was about 11 months old and she never started. So it could depend on the dog breed or just the dog. call your vet and he may know when your puppy should start up.

It basically depend on the breed ,dogs starts about 8 to 1 year for bigger dogs like bulldogs and mostly bull family . Dogs do have silent menstration so you need to be vigilant

Dogs do not menstruate...they have heat cycles usually twice a year. The average age for them to start a heat cycle is 6 months but it can be as early as 5 months or as late as 18 months. Smaller dogs often go in earlier and giant breeds often go in later.

It is advised to get a dog spayed before it goes into it's first heat. Getting spayed before the first heat pretty much eliminates the risk of mammary cancer and it does eliminate reproductive cancers and serious infections such as pyometria.

No, many circumstances can cause differences when they come into heat. Usually around 9 months for most breeds. However, if you have a male dog around showing interest, she can come into heat earlier. Be patient, as like people, they are all different.

  • First of all if you are a "Country Girl" you should know dogs don't menstruate..The acceptable terms are ....Go in to heat, season and the most accurate is Estrus. Most dogs start around six months of age, some will have silent heats you may not be aware of but, the answer you are looking for is usually before one year of age....Now Please get your dog spayed and you wont have to worry about it anymore. Please DONT BREED!!!!!!

6 months is correct. Sometimes it's hard to tell, unless there are male dogs around and then they will let you know.
