Transmission problem with 2000 Ford Crown Victoria?
I have a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria with 64,000 miles on it. The transmission slips when I start. So i want to know if I have to replace the whole transmission or if I can fix it myself?

I would say that if you have never changed the fluid, I would bring it to a shop that has a flush machine and have the fluid flushed and the filter changed. Make sure the proper fluid (Mercon V) is used. The 4R70W auto is a stout transmission so it probably needs a little maintenance and hopefully will be fine. You might want to check the fluid level at operating temperature because low fluid will cause this problem as well.

If all it is doing is slipping you should be able to repair it. If you have experience with transmission repair. more than likely it is an internal problem.... you may want to consult a transmission shop before it will have to be replaced.
