Townhome vs. Condos?

Hi there, I am looking to possibly buy my first home next spring, and am thinking along the line of a townhome or a condo. I was wondering your opinion on both of them, what the pros/cons were, if you own one, and if you enjoy owning them, or if you own one and hate it, and wish you had bought the other. Please let me know your thoughts...thank you!

Update:

Guess I should add I don't want to have to take care of a yard which is why I don't want to buy a single family home. =)

Between the two, townhome would be best! You wont have anyone on top of your unit! Most townhomes have very small yard anyway, so small sometimes the association will even maintain it! Condo's, they can be just like being in an apartment. On Condo's, (I bet most of you guys dont know this) but you own air space! You own the air inside the condo unit!

I'm in the mortgage/ real estate industry. Condos are know different then apartments. I know the newer model townhomes look more like regular homes. Keep in mind that condos are alot harde to sale then townhomes. Atleast with a townhome you'll have a yard/ privacy when you're outside. It all depends on what you really want in a home.

I would live in a townhome. In a condo, you have to hope the people that live overtop of you aren't noisy. You will also have more room in a townhome.

First option:- Buy a single family house if you can.

    Second option:- Townhome

    Third option:- Condo

    Fourth option:- Rent

Townhome gives you some room for growth. Buying and selling house is expensive (agent fee, lawyer fee etc.) and hence you need to be able to spend some years whatever you purchase.

A true tomwnhome will have less shared walls which equates to a bit more privacy.

Here is some additional info. Hope this helps.

There can be townhouse condos. Townhouse is a type of building style while "Condo" is a type of ownership.
