Muslims regard Jerusalem as a holy place, because it is associated with the Old Testament prophets, who were also prophets in Islam. The sacred nature of Jerusalem is because the angel Gabriel brought Muhammed to the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount. it was from here that Muhammed was taken up to Heaven in a vision. In the past Jerusalem was a place of pilgrimage instead of Mecca.

Muslims believe that Temple Mount was the sight that Mohamed Ascended into Heaven.
There is a lot of debate as to who owns the area for centuries. I do not know the true history.
But the problem goes back so long, that it will be a hard thing to sort out.

Jerusalem was not mentioned in the Qur'an. It is said Mohammad ascended to heaven from Mt. Moriah. But, this does not give a claim to Jerusalem.
Someone says Muslims only want Palestine back for Palestinians. There was never a country of Palestine till Israel recently gave land to become Palestine. There was never really a word of Palestinians till this time, too. Palestine was always a territory or province of some other powers--Romans, Saladin, Ottomans, British. So, how can you give back a country that never was?

I have met many really nice Koreans but I do not know anyone of any nationality that are holy. And I am not sure what one must do to become holly...sounds like a neat trick though.

Can't remember a time when resources weren't at the heart of religious claims.

Please correct your information. We are not claiming Jerusalem for muslims. We are claiming Palestine for Palestinians. Jersalem has muslims, religious and jewish sacred places. It is a universal place but who owns the land?
