Can you file bankruptcy if you've been sued?

if you own a house can you lose it and everything that you have?

a car accident and there might not be enough insurance to cover then they'd come after us

    As far as I know, that's a main reason people file for bankruptcy.

    Your insurance company should take care of the lawsuit up to the limits of your policy, assuming you are insured. If not, then you're responsible for any lawsuit.

    Bankruptcy is harder to get these days with so many people abusing it to get out of paying what they owe.

    It depends on what the law suit was for. If it was one of your creditors, then yes you can. However, it requires an additional process that your attorney will probably charge you more for.

    Yes you can in most cases, but you have to meet certain requirements.
