Why does the ink come off magazines?

In the old days ink stayed on the cover and inside. Now it comes off where I hold the magazine.

Is this a difference in the ink? difference in the printing method? Or has my body chemistry changed so that the oils given off by my hands is dissolving it?

The quality of both ink and paper is declining, and people do not save magazines for as long as they did back in the day, so the ink quality is not high enough to withstand very much. Your oils are dissolving it, but your body chemistry probably wouldn't change that much. Basically, the ink is crappy now.
