Internet vs Travel Agent?

Now that it's becoming so easy to find cheap fares for airlines online is there any reason to go through a travel agency?

I am a travel agent. Travel agents can usually find about the same prices on airfares. They do get discounts on things such as hotels, car rentals.... Please don't use a travel agent to see if they can beat the deal. It takes a lot of time to get a price for someone. If you do shop around and it is about the same price for the travel agent then use the travel agent. It may cost $15 or $20 more but if problems arise then you will have someone to take care of them for you. I once had a client miss a connecting flight. I was able to talk the airlines down i price to switch to the next flight. I also switched out their rail tickets and moved their car rental a day more. They couldn't have done this on their own.

    Just my two cents! :0)

Depends on what you are planning. If it's just a short trip away or to someplace familiar, I never mind searching for myself. However, if you are going to somewhere you've never been or to a different country, it's nice to know that there is a "person" you can ask questions to and that will be there to assist you in whatever you need.

For regular trips, I had always used the internet to book my own trips. However, for our honeymoon we used a travel agent and that was the best thing that could have ever happened to us. She made the entire trip seamless, including signing us up for express check in and express check out which ensured that we did not have to wait in any long lines. She did so much more and was well worth the money. We will definitely be using her for all of our out of country and all of our "special trips" away to someplace new and fun.

Not really....You can find your own trip on line, then run it through an agent to see if they can find you a better deal. Sometimes they do have some better deals because they negotiate rates with certain hotels, airlines, or other travel destinations. I'd do both and compare.....

on the net cheap deals are available only on more common routes, not for everywhere and anywhere, whereas a travel agent can get you deals for most of the destinations around the world.

if yo were flying to la from chicago, you could get a deal on the net, but try flying chicago to rochester ny
