How to put on a Scottish Accent?

I'm having a "murder night" party tommorow evening - a game where me and friends put on selected roles and play them as realistically as possible and have to work out who the murderer is... Anyway, I'm playing a Scottish character from the 1920s. Elegant and formal. But unable to put on his accent so far :(. Any pointers/useful links you know? :)

Roll your Rs to an excessive degree, say everything as a growl. throw in the occasional "Hoots mon" and "Och Aye".

Nothing like Scottish, but everybody will know what you mean.

Try rollling your R'S, possibly watch a mike myers movie to get into the character Austin Powers 2 or 3, Shrek, or So I married an Axe murder.

mike myers accents are irish, not scottish, even though they are supposed to be scots. scots accent is much tougher than an english or irish accent. your best bet would be to tone it down and go with a lowland scots accent, as the highlander accent is rather fierce. try this: http://www.lallybroch.com/LOL/index2.htm and click on the left where it says "Scottish Sound Files" they are excerpts from a book, but you will get at least a general idea of how heavy the accent will need to be. best of luck!

I find that being Scottish is usually the best way. Don't try to sound English, who said that has their head up their chuff. Mike Myers Scottish impression is crude and incorrect, though it is slightly better than Mel Gibsons attempt.

Scotish accent that's interesting. Talk softly, slowly and clearly. That's important. Remember to speak without any grammar mistake. Well just speak like an Englishman.

Make sure your speaking accent is not too weird.
