Type F is specifically designed for all pre-1977 Ford vehicles and some makes between 1977 and 1981. Effective March 1997, Ford discontinued administration of approvals for Type F fluids. However, there are still many vehicles on the road that use Type F. Type F and MERCON fluids are not interchangeable.

C-4 uses Type F and it can still be purchased. If you cant find it Dextron Merco III will suffice.

Fords mainley use F type fluid check the chilton or haynes manuals they will help

type f is what they originally used,i dont think you will find it anymore,i have been using mercon III in my 67 tbird ,no problems yet,this is supposed to be the replacement for type f

all the c-4 trannys i had,i used type f tranny oil.
