It has a lot to do with his diet. Talk to a vet about what diets promotes good coats. Also, try using a shedding blade on him 1 -2 times daily. It will get rid of the excess hair easily and he will enjoy the extra attention. You can find them at most pet supply stores.

I know it sounds odd but the type of food you are feeding him could have alot to do with how much he sheds. Mostly foods with alot of starch in them aren't the best for your dog (or cat). When I met my husband his siamese had fur falling out all over the place, and I'm not talking a few strands, I'm talking clumps!!! We switched his food over to what my cats were eatting and within 2 months his hair has grown back and has a beautiful coat.
Buy a dog food that has chicken or beef as the first product (i know it sounds nasty but by-products are ok as well) such as Iams, Pro Plan or Purina Dog Chow (cheaper than the other two but still good quality) Try it for a few months and I will bet you see a difference!!!

Seasonaly they will shed for there summer/winter coats. If they are stressed or nervous it will make it worse. Take the dog to a groomer and have it bathed and brushed it will cut back on the shedding.

have you tried the dog food that is suppose to help decrease the shedding... I would recommend that, and to also brush him a lot so that way you get most of the loose hair in the brush instead of the floor or sofa... Best of luck to you and the pooch
