Does anyone know how to get dye out of hair without going to the salon and getting it stripped out?

Well, I know it washes out when you wash your hair. I want my natural hair color back.

Baby shampoo or a medicated dandruff shampoo should take some of it out. I was living in a house with well water and I didnt know that it would affect my haircolor. Well, it did and I went to Fantastic Sams and she used a special shampoo that took some of the color out. The stylist told me that I should keep using the baby shampoo/dandruff shampoo and it would help strip the color. But condition, condition, condition

I've been there before. I don't have an answer other than the salon. I did a temporary color. I looked like I was wearing a wig. I called the hair color company, they told me what to get to strip it at home. I was unable to strip it evenly but had followed the directions. I put my desired color on top or my unevenly colored hair and hoped it would work. I disliked the results and ended up having to go to the salon anyway when I was able to afford it again. My hair subsequently had that "hay-like" texture I disliked but was able to manage it with hair conditioners. All is well now but it's been several years. [Just thought I'd share my experience and prevent you the same catastrophe!]

My suggestion is to go to a salon that will give you a color closest to your natural hair color and then let the natural color come out again. Good luck!

If you don't want to go to a salon then you need to find a dye that closely matches your natural hair color then let that just grow out. That way your roots are barely noticeable. I have done this SEVERAL times. lol I get bored with my natural color then a while later I am bored of having to fix my hair all the time. But bring a few friends and go somewhere that has the hair samples and hold them up to your roots and have your friends vote which one looks best. And remember to think about how your current hair color is going to effect it.

even if the haircolor is semi permanent and washes out it will never fully leave, you will have some left. the only way to get the color out of your hair is to strip it out, and then of course color it your natural color so it blends as it grows out-but either way you'll have some sort of color in your hair. the only way to have "virgin" undyed hair is to cut whats colored off and I'm sure you don't want to do that. You'll have to have a professional fix it

Surprised that no one has asked if it was a semi permanent, or a permanent colour. You said that you know it will wash out - would I be right in thinking that it is six to eight washes? Be careful! If you coloured it yourself and not keen on the result, by stripping it you're more likely to dislike it all the more. Either grin and bear if for a few weeks or pay to have it done properly.

Wash your hair really good. I mean scrub until you can't scrub anymore! If that doesn't work you might have to go to the salon and they might have some shampoo that could get it out.

there's something you can buy at the store, it's in a small red/orange/brown box,and i mean SMALL. it takes all the hair dye out... but you have to dye it another color. it's about 12.00

it makes your hair a beautiful white/blondeish (im sarcastically saying this), and then redye and it's beautiful!
