Racism is simply judging another person by their color or ethnic background, the problem is; the people doing the judging rarely have an understanding of the people being judged. In the past, just about everywhere racism has been a constant, but as technology grows in this world our knowledge and understanding grows about those around us, meaning our decisions are more likely to be based on facts. I believe there will always be some racism, just as there will always be evil in this world, but it is less and I'm doing my part to educate those around me and if each person did that the world would be a better place.

That's a more complex question than it first appears. This country (US) has had a pretty bad track record. The policy of Manifest Destiny (Native Americans somehow not human enough to have any rights) and later slave ownership, are good examples. Ignorance is largely to blame, but greed plays a part in this also. Since there was a benefit to taking a Native American's rights away (and his land rights, water rights, etc.), it was easier to say "They're savages" than it was to admit "We're greedy SOB's" Slavery was largely the same,.(Although these days it's politically correct in the South to say the civil war was about State's rights as opposed to Federal rights.) The natives of South America faced the same thing when the Spanish decimated their countries. So greed and ignorance were fairly even back then.

Now we have racism from many different areas. Many Native Americans and African Americans make racist statements, as do groups of caucasions (who seem to be sharing one brain instead of each using their own). So how do you label that?

It's not much different from what we see in other countries, old memories of atrocities in the past. Hard to get around, but it must be overcome to get rid of racism.

The newest racism is based in religion. "Paki's, ragheads, etc." aren't about skin color, eye color, etc. it's Muslim vs. Christian.

They can't seem to forget the Crusades, yet the Crusades were for "taking back" the "Holy lands." How does this all end? World resources are shrinking so like it or not greed will soon re-enter the equation, ignorance is one of the first tools used to create hatred and racism, old memories still exist in many cultures.

Thicker skin helps one to ignore some of it, and developing relationships with others based on what is common to both while minimizing what is different helps. Get rid of the politically correct BS and discuss issues! Nothing goes away by ignoring it.

I have a regular rainbow of friends. I'm as welcome at their houses as they are at mine. Our kids play together and spend the night over at each others houses and it's all good. Their rules are much like my rules, their children are as treasured as mine, we have much in common, and last I heard color wasn't contagious. Attitudes are, and our kids are growing up with good ones. It's not about color, it's about how you are treated.

I tend to agree with krm29619. The very act of assigning a "race" to someone is a racist act in it self. In the past it was assumed to be a concrete thing and was institutionalized in our laws. It still exists in the form of "racial" quotas but not to the extent of the past. I don't know if there will ever be a time when race will no longer be relevant in our society but we can each try to make it that way in our own lives.

I basically comprehend one race. it relatively is noted as the Human Race and incorporates a extensive array of variations, ameliorations and configurations. i'm additionally from Louisiana and that i think of the placement in Jena is lots overblown and is greater a 'clique' difficulty than a racist one. Please submit to in innovations that toddlers in school are commonly youngsters and youths will in lots of circumstances do stupid issues that appear like a stable thought on the time.

everything from the past affects our daily life now. i don't believe WE as americans can get over the things from the past. the past has caused us to hate white people because of the bad things, and has caused white people to hate us just because of what was done to our ancestors, that we don't even know. we should ALL just try to get to know individuals instead of trying to stereotype a group. PEACE TO ALL!!!
