how do i condition my dogs' dry skin?

Make sure you don't bathe your dog too often in the winter. Give your dog baths with oatmeal in them. Rub coconut oil or papaya oil into your dogs coat, and especially on his skin. When rinsing shampoo's out, use lukewarm not hot water.

make fish oil a daily routine. try soaking your dog in baby oil prior to a bath, use a sensitive skin shampoo, AND conditioner. also, only bath your dog once every 3 to 4 weeks...too many baths can dry your dogs skin out by removing important oils and minerals...i know some people who bath their dogs every other day...i dont know if thats the case with you, but BAD IDEA. try taking your dog to the vet if you are concerned, there could be an underlying problem or the vet can make better recommendations...

start with the food. feed foods that are rich in omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids to help condition the skin and coat. try to find foods that list animal meat as the first 2 or 3 ingrdients, you'll have to pay more but its so much better for the skin and coat and just overall health. so many people think whats in the grocery store or on t.v. is good and it's really not. does the dog scratch and chew at itself? he may have allergies its very common and often caused by the food as well. other than that try to give him baths with shampoo made from colloidal oatmeal. its commonly used in body lotion for humans and you can find it in many dog shampoos. and of course if you can check with the vet asap. good luck!

many stores will sell shampoos and conditioners for sensitive skin.It should have oatmeal in it.Personally I would ask the vet.I put my pooch on salmon oil pills for her dry skin and it really helped,i got the pills from the vet.

Try putting vaseline on the spot but keep him from licking it as it is not digestable.

My Doxie has terribly dry skin around this time of year. We got a humidifier in our home last year and it has worked wonders for his dry skin and ours.

I add a bit of olive oil to my dog's food daily. Really helps this time of year.

Fish oil supplements work very well. You can also try using a conditioner when you give him a bath.

you need to take the dog to the Vet. Also what kind of dog food are you feeding your dog. It might not have the right kind of oils in it.
