Is the Riviera Hotel ok to stay in, or should I book another one?

I stayed there for the first time in September 2006. It was very nice and I did pretty good gambling there as well. It is on the strip and you can walk most anywhere or catch a bus or a cab.

If you move farther down the strip it will be increasingly more and more expensive and you will be surprised at how little time you spend in your room. I don't find the added cost worth it.

Ok I have lived in Vegas all my life, so here goes.

I think that you can do better than the Rivera. Yes the previous answer was correct that the more south you go on the strip (away from downtown) the more expensiive the rooms get. HOWEVER, the "middle" strip boasts some nice places to stay. We take mini-vacations two - three times a year and stay on the strip so we can do the tourist thing. Circus Circus is clean and nices as long as you stay in the towers. Do not stay in the "manor" that is like a model across the street from the casino. Even without kids this is a great place to stay.

Also try the historic Sahara. It has had a remodel within the last couple of years, has the NASCAR cafe and has a monorail station. The TI (used to be called Treasure Island) is more South and across from the Wynn. A bargan on the south end of the strip is the Excalibur which is right in the middle of the action at the busiest intersection in vegas, Tropicana and the Strip/

With the monorail running to the south end of the strip and the double decker city bus running up and down every couple of minutes you won't miss a thing even staying in the middle.

Ditch the Rivera . . . you can do MUCH better

I gamble at the Riviera and am fearful when I do that. It's on the North side of the LV Strip and the neighborhood gets a little seedy the closer you get to Fremont Street. I would not stay there...at all...ever.

    I wouldn't stay there

it is pretty far away from the strip and not very nice or clean

a nice place is Excaliber is not expensive and it has some family things to do too..sort of like circus circus

Caesars Palace is nice but fancy and expensive

but the good news is you hardly spend anytime in your room anyway...and the food is cheap...

    have a fun time

Last time I looked, it was a seedy dump. Of course, I

    haven't been there since 2000. Look up Hotels.com;

unlike other cities, Vegas is loaded with hotels (that's what it

is, hotels and gambling, shows, etc.)

It is not in a "bad area" & is ON the Strip. Wonder what people are thinking sometimes. Old but fine. No safety issues & not going to be in room in Vegas anyway.

If possible I would try to stay elsewhere....it's a little bit far from the main strip and located in a not so good neighborhood

When I stayed there in 1995 it was dirty and just run-down. We had sand fleas in the room and changed rooms twice and still had the problems. You're better off staying somewhere else.

Do not go there. When I went there, it looked like the floor wasn't vacuumed and our room was sort of filthy. Our bedsheets and comforters smelled like armpits. It was nasty!
