any old repair manual that covers that year can be found at used book stores or the library, you can also get them at ebay.com and amazon.com.
New ones are available at parts stores and Pepboys
there is also a lot of info at our Mustang group :)
Fire order is 15426378 starting in front on the passenger side, cylinders are numbered 1234 and 5678 on drivers side. Dist turns CC with number 1 at 2 o'clock looking from the front.

1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 is the firing order. There isn't much in the way of wiring under the hood of a '71 Stang either.

Rotor turns counter clock wise
set your timing mark on zero and your rotor will be pointing at # 1 OR it will be 180 degrees out and be pointing at # 6
pull the #1 spark plug , put your thumb over the spark plug hole and turn the motor over (15/16 socket), when the compression blows your thumb off ( thats the compression stroke ) stop at zero . Thats where # 1 should be on the distributer.
You can go to autozone.com , enter your vehicle info , and look up parts or look up tune up specs.

Haynes motor manual at your local parts store. It's 20 bucks but it more than pays for itself after the first use.
