Medusa's hair: was made out of snakes. But only on her head?

We take it as given that her hair was composed of snakes. Classical art shows her barnet is a writhing mass of herpetology which must take special skill at the hairdresser's. ("just a little off the cobras today, Vidal")

But what if the hair under her armpits snatches the razor out of her hand and throws it away? Or bites a hole in the deodorant can?(She is a European lady, after all)

Modesty forbid I go further with other bodily hair problems... How does Medusa cope?

LOL! The snakes were only on her head. And her bracelets were snakes. Read more.

"Medusa was a terrible monster who had laid waste to the country. She was once a beautiful maiden whose hair was her chief glory, but as she dared to vie in beauty with Athena, the goddess deprived her of her charms and changed her beautiful ringlets into hissing serpents. She became a cruel monster of so frightening an aspect that no living thing could behold her without being turned into stone. All around the cavern where she dwelt might be seen the stony figures of men and animals which had chanced to catch a glimpse of her and had been petrified with the sight. Perseus, favored by Athena and Hermes, the former of whom lent him her shield and the latter his winged shoes, approached Medusa while she slept, and taking care not to look directly at her, but guided by her image reflected in the bright shield which he bore, he cut off her head and gave it to Athena, who fixed it in the middle of her Aegis."

And here is even more info about her sisters.

"So from this passage in the Theogony, we know that the Gorgons were the sisters of the Graiae; that they lived in the far West; that they were named Stheno, Euryale, and Medusa; and that two of the sisters - Stheno and Euryale - were immortal, while the third - Medusa - was mortal and therefore could be killed (and indeed, Medusa, as the sole mortal sister, is most famous in mythology for the story of her tragic life and death).

As was previously mentioned, the Gorgons are also notorious for their distinctive appearance. According to ancient Greek artists, these monsters were not just ugly - they were hideous. The Gorgons are commonly portrayed in ancient art with snakes for hair, enormous tongues, teeth that would make a boar blush with envy, and a stare that could literally petrify. However, it is also worth noting that in some versions of the myth of the Gorgons, Medusa is described as a beautiful woman who makes the unfortunate mistake of comparing her beauty to that of the goddess Athena - see the page about Medusa for more details. Yeah - according to the Ovid she was pregnant by Poseidon when she was beheaded by Perseus. As Athena had made a beautiful nymph into the gorgon - to all intents and purposes her body was still beautiful and it was just her head and face which were to terrible to behold! Therefore armpit hair was probably the least of her problems.

Looking at this portrait painted by Plato himself we can see only the hair on her head had this problem.

And in this photo taken by Alexander the Great we can see that up close she actually lacks legs altogether so her bush becoming a nest of vipers is not a problem (unlike peeing...)
