You might want to get the book: Knitting for Peace: Make the World a Better Place One Stitch at a Time, by Betty Christiansen, Kiriko Shirobayashi.

It has some interesting ideas, and tells about how you can help the world through knitting. You can keep the things you knit if you like them, or donate them to good causes if you want to also.
