Is there a particular reason that church doors are often painted red?
I know this sounds like a silly question, but I've been very curious about this since childhood.

Contrast. The red color says "I am a door, not a bush, not the brick wall (wrong shad of red), not siding...a door. Enter here, please".
Go to Ireland sometimes and you'll see row houses where the only distinguishing mark is the door. Yellow doors mean the same thing as red doors (namely...that they are not green doors). I presume other places do the same thing.
There are no silly questions, only silly answers.
BTW, the dominant door coloring in churches in my 'hood is oak. Not saying I live in a better place or nothing but just pointing out that door color *may* not be all that meaningful.

I would guess that it's because of Passover. In the old Testament God told the Jews to paint over their doors with animal blood (cow?) so that when the spirit of death came through and wiped out the bad people, they and their household / loved ones would be spared because of their faith.

I always assumed they were red to represent the blood shed from Jesus. Maybe a reminder to all those who walked passed those doors or what he gave for us.

Much like the coats of the British soldier, or those of the original Cossacks, it hides what areas are splashed with blood during violence.

Its Just in the bible it says that the blood of god was red so they paint it because it shows they are covered in the blood of jesus.

i never really thought about it. but you're right a lot of them are. maybe it's to represent the blood Jesus shed for our sins. and that when you are saved you are cleansed in His blood. so maybe it has something to do with that. i don't know.
