is there anything wrong with hookin up with a family member?

First and foremost, let me say that I am completely against this idea. I think it's gross and could never imagine doing it myself. However, who we choose to love is not always part of the norm.

Legally, it's allowable in most states as long as there not closely related, second and third cousins for instance. And while it's possible that a child could come out retarded, it's not likely incest would be a causing factor. If your family is very close knit, or they all do this type of thing then expect to have some retarded kids. Otherwise most families are genetically spread out far enough to avoid this.

It's called incest. Incest is socially unacceptable in most cultures. If you intend to have children, don't do it. There is a high likelihood that the children from such a union will be deformed and/or retarded.
