Brain stem glioma is a cancerous tumor that involves the brainstem which is located at the very center of the brain. First symptoms can be mild and contributed to other disorders. An MRI is used to diagnose a brainstem glioma. Unless it is caught very early, radiation and chemo will not really help. Symptoms can get worse gradually or get worse by leaps and bounds. Throwing up for no reason often is one of the signs of a well progressed tumor. Because of the location of it it will cut off the spinal fluid surrounding the brain stem causing severe nausea. Crossing of the eyes, often mistaken for lazy eye is another symptom. Slurred speech, clumsyness and enlarged head are early symptoms as well. A brain stem glioma affects mainly motor skills but can also affect learning skills as well. In the latter stages of this glioma, symptoms progress rapidly which can include seizures, difficulty swallowing, loss of muscle movement, etc. A baby can be born with a brain stem glioma and the only way it is suspected at birth is the baby may be born with knots on their skin. Brain stem glioma is slightly hereditary but for the most part is just one of those unfortunate things that happens. If a parent, child or sybling is diagnosed with a brain stem glioma, it is said that close blood relatives run a little higher risk of suffering from one themselves. A brain tumor can be suspected if the nerve in the back of the eye is seen to be swollen and if it is even a small chance that someone can have a brain tumor, by all means please get it checked just to make sure.

Source(s): My 6 yr. old son died in 1993 from a brain stem glioma. By the time we found out, it was to late. He had been misdiagonosed with lazy eye from the age of one and by the time he was correctly diagnosed it was the size of a baseball totally consuming his brain stem with no hope of recovery. He died just a little over 3 months later.

Brains stem is referred to that area wher your brain joins the spinalcord. It lies at the base of your head. It has 3 parts, medulla oblangata, pons and midbrain. It is a very important part of the brain and controls very important functions like breathing, make your heart beat etc. Gliomas are most common types of tumors in the brain. So a brainstem glioma is a tumor arising in this very important part of the brain and can be deadly. Like many other tumors, the cause is not clear. treatment may involve either highly complex surgery or radiation therapy.

    Check this website : http://clinicalstudies.info.nih.gov/cgi/detail.cgi...

This drug has shown a lot of promise is preliminary studies on gliomas, and has already been in phase III studies for thyroid cancer.

NIH seems to be recruiting glioma patients for phase I and II clinical testing.

Making dietary changes is your first line of defense in treating hypothyroidism. Learn here https://tr.im/8VVUF

Many people with hypothyroidism experience crippling fatigue and brain fog, which prompts reaching for non-nutritional forms of energy like sugar and caffeine. I’ve dubbed these rascals the terrible twosome, as they can burn out your thyroid (and destabilize blood sugar).

    1. Just say no to the dietary bungee cord. Greatly reduce or eliminate caffeine and sugar, including refined carbohydrates like flour, which the body treats like sugar. Make grain-based carbohydrates lesser of a focus, eating non-starchy vegetables to your heart’s content.

    2. Up the protein. Protein transports thyroid hormone to all your tissues and enjoying it at each meal can help normalize thyroid function. Proteins include nuts and nut butters; quinoa; hormone- and antibiotic-free animal products (organic, grass-fed meats, eggs, and sustainably-farmed fish); and legumes.
