do dogs ever recover from masticatory muscle myositis?
my st. bernard is 18 months old and being treated with steroids for m.m.m. the vet had him on 120mg a day and he became aggressive but did start opening his mouth again. now he's at 60mg a day after about three weeks of cutting back on the dose. he can still open his mouth but only wakes up to eat, drink, sleep and go outside to potty. will he ever recover from m.m.m?

Obviously prednisilone being a steroid is going to have side effects and it is only ever used as a last resort for this reason. I can't give you a lot more information on this as I have not had a dog with it. However, I have used acupuncture many times on my dogs from a very experienced vet / acupuncturist and the first thing they will tell you is that if cancer is in the body then acupuncture will accellerate the condition. It is a risk we have to take with older dogs. I have no idea whether acupuncture is suitable for muscle atrophy. Best of luck with this and do hope you manage to get her condition stable.
