Has Chrysler Killed Jeep?

Is it just me or is Jeep dead? To me it started with dumping the Cherokee in 2001 in favor of the Liberty. (Side note the new 2008 Liberty is a reworked/refaced Dodge Nittro.) Now there is a Compas(Dodge Caliber), the Patriot (front wheel drive) And the bigger soccer mom friendly mini van V6 powered Jeep Wrangler.

A Jeep (I'm talking orig open air type vehicle) is a vehicle that when you take it off road one can hose it off inside and out. It is a vehicle that the owner can work on and modify him/herself w/out an advance degree in enginering from Brown. I'm not saying that the won't Wrangler be a good off vehicle. I just think that none off roaders shouldn't have such a big influence on how the JEEP should ride or if it should have all the creature feature as the H2 or H3( over priced Tahoe and Cayan).

Then there is Chryslers stupid "Trailrated" badge. Marketers suck! Is your Jeep better than my jeep because it has a badge? No! Its just a sticker!

    I think that they have over done it just a little bit. I think that people accepted the Cherokee, and the wrangler - but when they started making the liberty and so on adn so forth it got a little less off road and a little more mom. So yes, I do think that they have done to much for the jeep. They should have just called 'em Dodge instead of making them seem like they should be able to go off road.

    If they did, that is just too bad.

    The jeep sales went really well until every manufacturer just joined the bandwagon and started selling SUVs. The move literally pushed the jeep out. First reason is their design, no variation. Second is the novelty of the other brand names. That is harder to fight in terms of marketing when Jeep is already a well respected product.

    Maybe they are waiting it out, or redesigning their marketing.

    I personally like the Cherokee series but who knows what everybody else wants?

    They have to do what the market dictates in order to sell vehicles and stay competitive. I think Daimler Chrysler is doing just fine with Jeep.
