What do you think about "blood diamonds" or conflict diamonds? Have you seen the new movie?

Africa has a long history of being war-torn. Sending money there can either fund warlords or emerging democracies - hard to tell which.

I understand some diamond sellers serialize their diamonds so their origins can be tracked.

Of course it's all very political. Canadian diamond producers want you to believe conflict diamonds are a crucial problem. African diamond producers want you to believe the opposite. Both of them want you to believe synthetic diamonds aren't good enough.

I would buy a diamond no matter what. Thats their job, aint it? If you ask your jeweler that, they'll probably just say yes anyway. Dont get so bothered by the movie. Trust me, that sort of thing has been going on for a long, long time.
