I put my back out of place 6 weeks ago!?

I was getting ready for work and coughed and my back popped since then i have been dealing with it this weekend it started hurting so bad i can hardly stand it. I have been to the doc before they could not find anything on x-ray been to chiropractor and they work me over from top to bottom and usually make me feel worse in my upper back and neck that i usually just deal with the pain until i can get it back in to place myself. I am afraid that i am going to cause nerve damage if i don't do somthing since my legs start to tingle and go numb at times. It is my lower back and i can usually twist myself back into shape but this time it feels as if it needs to be streched vertically any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Try a different chiropractor, if they are doing the same thing, and it obviously isn't working they should have resolved their treatment plan by now. It's possible that you have a rib out of place if you did it while coughing, or you strained one of the many intercostal (rib) muscles running between each rib. If it is below your ribs, it may be a muscle strain of one of the multitude of muscles in your back. If you're getting radiating pain into your legs it is possibly a disc lesion as well. As one of my professors says, find a chiropractor who PERFORMS chiropractic, not one who practices it. Good luck

I had a wonderful experience with biofeedback. I have nearly fused L3,4,5 vertebrae and had problems for almost 20 years. In 1991 I tore the ligaments around the L4. Neither a chiropractor nor a neurosurgeon could give me relief through adjustments. By a fluke I had to have a physical ed credit for college and the only thing I could do that was non-physical was a biofeedback relaxation course. While learning how to relax through biofeedback I found muscles in my back that were over-compensating and exacerbating the pain. When I relaxed them the ligament healed and I have never had pain in that area again. I don't know where you can go for biofeedback training, but the relaxation techniques should be available to you. The training includes being hooked up to electrodes that emit a sound which you learn to control through relaxation of the areas where they are attached. The relaxation techniques teach you how to warm, tense and relax muscles. Good Luck. Back pain is devastating.

sounds like you need to see a different chiropractor and maybe get some supervised at-home excersize.
