If your car is running too hot, like its getting into the red, stop driving it. You may end up blowing the headgasket, warping the head. Its hard to say what it could be for sure. But have you checked your coolent levals? I would check that first, if you are low it could be the water pump. As far as the mileage disapearing not sure what that could be.

It's a possibilty it may be the starter. The starters wires connect to the gauges so maybe that explains the milage cutting out? I had the same exact problem with my truck( I know it's not the same kind ) but then about three weeks later I went out to start it and it wouldn't start at all... Also in the second week if it was just idleing it would stall and I would have to start it up again. Embarassing at red lights when the light turns green :)
Anyway, I got the starter and now it's just fine. Starts up and everything without a problem.
I suggest taking it to a machanic and getting it checked out.
Good luck.

If you have only had the car for a few days you need to get the dealer to fix it under warranty. If you bought it from an individual that could complicate things. The problem sounds like you may have a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Bad water pump or a sticking thermostat or you might need coolant in the radiator. This repair could get rather expensive.

go to the nearest auto shop for a free saftey inspection then go to auto zone and ask the guys there for an engine check for charging system tell them the engine check light is on all the time when it runs now you have answers to the major problems and can decide whether to repair this or sue
