i upgraded my ram, i have a 512 and a gig, does it matter which ram goes in which slot?

I would really reconsider putting two different size chips in. It has been my experience that computers are funny and work better when the components are "married". Also I have read that the in crease in speed maxes out at 1GB using preferably two 512MB chips. If you are looking for more speed consider upgrading the processor speed instead. For the money, you won't be gaining much upgrading ram more than 1GB. Given this information, I would put the 1 GB in the 1st slot and 512 in the second.

No, it doesn't matter, as long as both sticks are the same speed. And you have it in the same color slots on the motherboard. With most motherboards, you have to install the first stick of memory in slot 1, and the second in slot 3.

You can go to the manufacturers web site, or use my method. Leave the one there where it is, and add the new one. If it doesn't work, reverse them. With a motherboard that will handle that much RAM either should work fine.

usually no, but depending on your motherboard it can affect the access method of the memory. find out the mobo (it will show up just when you turn on the computer, something like DG965WH. you can find the instructions by googling (or yahooing) that will describe the best way to install the memory.

i'm no high tech guru but the information i have read states that you place the higher capacity ram in the first slot.

as long as they're the same speed, you're ok no matter which slot.
