You need to get an enzymatic cleaner which is available at most pet stores and follow the directions. Do not use a detergent or soap before the enzymatice cleaner or you will destroy the enzymatic cleaner's effectiveness. Only an enzymatic cleaner will break down the urine on a chemical basis so the dog will not repeat.

And by the way, a shock collar will surely not help your dog understand that carpet and furniture are not an appropriate places to soil They will only confuse your dog and make him not trust you.

I rented a rug doctor to get rid of the odors out of my carpets and furniture

Most of the above answers are pretty good. You can also try "Natures Miracle", it comes in spray for and in gallon sizes to pour into carpet cleaners. They also make an odor remover for animals "skunked" (sprayed by a Skunk). Hope you find something that works.

    Use an enzymatic cleaner.

    I like PET FORCE.

If you can't find this, PETASTIC is good too.

Saturate the soiled area, agitate with a brush if you want, and keep the area damp for 24 hours. That gives the enzymes time to work. Then allow to dry completely. Repeat if needed.

I just bought some "Urine-Off". It's an enzyme cleaner but this one REALLY works. It's more expensive than the other brands, but I could acutally watch it take out the stain. Then I would follow up with Nature's Miracle.

If you're talking about getting rid of the odor to the human nose,

    I'd suggest "X-O Concentrate"or an equivalent.

I would say Febreeze. My little girl only peed on the carpet once. I cleaned it up and sprayed really good in the area with Febreeze so it worked for me!

I use Orange TKO and used to use Nature's Miracle but you just want to make sure you use a cleaner that breaks down enzymes, not an ordinary household stain cleaner.

I would try a 2 part vinegar to 1 part water solution and see if it works.

other enzyme based cleansers are named Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle
