How do phone calls get from one continent to another? There are lines (trunk lines, also known as backbone) that layout the framework for one network to communicate with another on the internet. For more detailed information, check out a book or even wikipedia article on the topic.

when you need to go to a website, your comp sends a signal to your modem and the modem sends signal to service provider which sends signal to satellite dish sending signal to website creator's comp by doing the same process in reverse.
