Traveling in the states for 10 months. Need internet for laptop. No home phone or cable. Any cheap solutions?

Update:

I heard of wireless data cards. Is it expensive and do I need a cell phone? Monthly fees? Reliability? Speed? Would I still be able to use the card when I move back to Canada?
