2 months old will not sleep more than 6 hours without waking up to eat. Do not give medication as some have said that is dangerous. There is a reason that babies wake up. Its to eat because they are growing extremely fast and they need the nutrition. It is more important that your child is fed than for you to sleep right now. You baby will sleep more hours soon, just hang in there. Babies will start having a predictable routine about 4 months but will not start sleeping completely straight throught the night until after 6 months, some kids take longer.

My daughter started sleeping through the night when she was about 6 weeks. What I did was get her used to a bedtime routine - I would bath her, dress her in her in a sleeper, give her a bottle and sing while she was drinking. All of this really relaxed her and put her right to sleep.
Start trying to cut out the middle-of-the-night feedings. Start stretching the feed time...if the baby is usually fed at 3:00, wait until 3:15 to feed him/her the first night. The second night wait until 3:30 and so forth. Eventually your baby will stop feeling hungry at the same time every night and stop waking for the middle-of-the-night feed.
One tip about the sleepers (the one-piece outfits with the feet attached): I found that she would get sleepy whenever I dressed her in a sleeper - kind of like she knew they were her PJ's. During the day, don't let your baby stay in a sleeper (dress him/her in something else) and save the sleeper for bedtime. Your baby will learn to associate the feel of their sleeper with "sleep". Trust me it works!
One more thing - when people say "sleep through the night", at first it really just means the baby skips the middle-of-the-night feed. Chances are the baby will still wake early (5-6am), but be patient and soon they will drop this feeding too and sleep right until 8.
I hope your baby starts sleeping through the night soon cause I know you must have so much sleep to catch up on!
Good luck sweetie! I wish you all the best!

The simple answer is that you can't force a 2 month old to sleep through the night. You have to wake up for the baby to feed and change them when they want you to. Once the baby hit about 7 months then you can let the baby cry itself back to sleep but right now you are trying to form a close bond so that the baby knows that he can count on you and that you are there for him.

She could awaken 3 to 4 situations a night or each and every 2 hours. She did no longer have a nap time at 2.5 months by using fact I enable her sleep as much as she needed. She in many situations went to mattress around 7:00-7:30 p.m and could awaken for good at 7:00 a.m. She have been given around 11-12 hours of sleep for the duration of night. I breastfeed her commonly at night - sometimes I pumped. I ordinary a nap recurring at around 6 months till then I allowed her to sleep even nonetheless lots and each and every time she needed. I nonetheless enable her sleep plenty and she or he's two - nonetheless has naps besides.

It will take some time for your 2 month old to start getting used to sleeping at night. Eventually when he is four months he will be more adjusted to the sleeping patterns. Just give it some time and patience.

Divine Intervention.
Christ people, babies are not meant to sleep through the night. Nightwaking protects them from SIDS, malnutrition, overheating, becoming chilled, getting eaten by wolves, etc, etc.
If you wanted to get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep you either should have become rich enough to afford a night nanny before having any kids or gotten a kitten or other litter trainable pet.
Source(s): One thing we have learned during our years in pediatrics is that babies do what they do because they're designed that way. In the case of infant sleep, research suggests that active sleep protects babies. Suppose your baby sleeps like an adult, meaning predominantly deep sleep. Sounds wonderful! For you, perhaps, but not for baby. Suppose baby had a need for warmth, food, or even unobstructed air, but because he was sleeping so deeply he couldn't arouse to recognize and act on these needs. Baby's well being could be threatened. It appears that babies come wired with sleep patterns that enable them to awaken in response to circumstances that threaten their well being. We believe, and research supports, that frequent stages of active (REM) sleep serve the best physiologic interest of babies during the early months, when their well being is most threatened http://www.askdrsears.com/html/7/T070200.asp --------------- Sadler S. Sleep: what is normal at six months? Prof Care Mother Child 1994 Aug-Sep;4(6):166-7. In this study, part of the Avon Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood (ALSPAC), researchers surveyed the parents of 640 babies. Some of the results: Only 16% slept through the night at six months old -- 84% were not sleeping through the night at 6 months 17% woke more than once per night, ranging from twice to eight times 5% woke once every night 9% woke most nights 50% woke occasionally 16% of six-month-olds had no regular sleeping pattern http://www.kellymom.com/parenting/sleep/sleepstudi... -------------------- Armstrong KL, Quinn RA & Dadds MR. The sleep patterns of normal children. Medical Journal of Australia 1994 Aug 1;161(3):202-6. The above study is the definitive work on sleeping habits of (Australian) children to 38 months. The researchers surveyed 3269 parents, with a 96.5% response rate, over a one week period. The parents had to report on their child's sleeping habits over the past 24 hours, plus answer a few questions related to their perceptions of their child's sleep behavior. What did they find? There is a wide range of normal childhood sleep behavior. Circadian rhythm is not well established until four months of age. Daytime sleep becomes less regular with increasing age, the most marked reduction in length occurs around 3 months of age. However, a surprising 11% under 3 months of age don't have a daytime sleep every day. Frequent night waking that disturbs parents is common from 4-12 months (12.7% disturb their parents 3 or more times every night). Night time settling requires more parental input from 18 months. Nearly a third of parents have a significant problem with their child's sleep behavior. Sleeping through the night: 71.4% did this on at least one occasion by 3 months of age, but many of these relapse into more frequent waking in the 4 to 12 month period. It is not until after 24 months that regular night waking (requiring attention) becomes much less common. Although this study did not address breastfeeding, it is relevant because a lack of understanding of "normal" sleep patterns can lead to supplementing, early solids, belief there is not enough milk, etc. The authors claim it also leads to misdiagnosis of gastro-esophageal reflux (GER) and overuse of sedative medication. A worrying 31% of 25-38 month-old children were disciplined (mostly smacking) to get them to settle. 27% of parents let their children cry, 11% at less than one month. - Anonymous1 decade ago

Mine didn't sleep at all at night until she was like 7 months. My other child slept thru the night from the first day we brought him home. It depends on the child. You just have to tough it out.

i find wrapping my son is the best, when he is in the cot gently tap his chest area so it reflects a heartbeat making a soothing sound eg like the ocean. i know from experience if you nurse them to sleep holding them they may be up till all hours of the night. doing this my two both slept right through before 3 mths
