Questions about alpacas?

I'm seriously thinking about raising some alpacas. Do you know how much does one alpaca cost? How many alpacas should I start with? Do you have any special tips about rasing them?

I work with and show alpacas, you can sometimes get pet or fiber quality males cheap or free, but if you want to raise or sell it will depend on the quality as to how much you pay. go to alpacainfo.com and locate farms near you. Most will wecome prospective new breeders and help you get started. There is also info and links on that site. Alpacanation.com has alpacas for sale so you can look around and get an idea.Take your time, edjucate yourself. They are a wonderful animal.

well as we dont know what country you are in its hard to say a price

    Austria? Argentina? Australia?

I am in Canada and they can be anywhere from $10 (unregistered) to $50,000 (registered show quality with proven wins)

they are not as friendly or calm as llamas are

    they are good jumpers

get one that is halter trained if you want it to be a pet... they NEED to be in herds or with other animals like sheep... - males will fight if you have too many males and not enough females, but you can have them gelded

I bought ours for $28 from a odd and unsuall Livestock Auction

alpacas are very expensive. they can rang from 5000-30,000. they are herd animals and so u would want at least 3..... if that price is out of ur range, llamas may be a option. although they are not as ''cuddly'' or ''cute'', they are apart of the same family. but they are larger and have more of a attitude when they feel threaten.

I have them but dont really raise them - we have them for protection of our sheep.. one did have a baby recently but as we are not breeding for show I wouldnt say we are raising them.. not much money in raising them unless you get purebreds and show them.... they are not automatically friendly you do have to tame them first we had an Alpaca too but got rid of it... they are less friendly

(as of early 1994) Pet or fiber males begin at $1,000 (US) with

stud quality males beginning at $4,000 and many selling for

$10,000 or more. Weanling females begin at $13,000 and bred females at $16,000.

depends on how much money & land you have& care.

it doesnt sound like it is a lot of work to care for them.
