White American gasoline was rated at 100 octane and was unleaded way back in the early 50's and 60's.
Ran a service station in 1962[when I was 16], airplane ran out of gasoline and deadsticked down our road stopping about a half mile from the store. Pilot walked up, explained his problem, we tanked him with 100 octane American and away he went.

Sunoco used to sell 110 octane fuel. I own a 62 Vette with a 327. I still have the owners manual and it calls for 110 octane fuel.
Over the years I had to do some modifications to run on today's pump gas.
