Mouse and Keyboard problems. Help please?

Just built my own computer and I'm having some problems with my mouse and keyboard. The PS/2 ports don't work so I'm using a PS/2 to USB converter for the keyboard and the mouse is already USB compatible. At first I used the PS/2 extension for my mouse so I could plus both mouse and keyboard into the USB converter because it's a two-way converter for both mouse and keyboard. I wasn't getting the extra functions on the mouse such as scroll and zoom so I plugged it in the usb slot without using any extensions.

My keyboardis still in the USB converter and when I type on msn it stops typing after a few words. i have no idea what's wrong. It also malfunctions in much the same way in games such as D2. Before you shoot me a

compatability question, here are the specs:

E6600 2.4GHz core 2 duo processor

2G Kingston ram

Asus P5B motherboard

550W power supply

GeForce 7950 GT

Samsung combo drive

Asus motherboards are very good quality, thats the only one me and my buddies use, and we've been building our own computers for 10+ years. I would check your bios settings and see if the PS/2 ports are disabled first. Then as the other person suggested, check for a bios update, sometimes problems are found when a new piece of hardware is released before the software is ready for it. It also could be possible that you have a bad motherboard, but asus support is also very good, they will help you and replace it if necessary. Or since its new, call or email the reseller you got it from first, they may just simply hand

    you a new one.

As far as scroll and zoom, that would be in the drivers for the mouse, shouldn't matter how its plugged in. Depends if windows is detecting it as a wheel mouse or not and what the default settings are.

I've seen strange issues like this with my ASUS motherboard. Usually a BIOS update and installing the newest system drivers fixes the issue.
