Who is the greatest hard rock/heavy metal vocalist ever?!?
Ozzy Osbourne? Robert Plant? Zach De La Rocha? Serj Tankian? James Hetfield? David Draiman? Corey Taylor? Kurt Cobain? Chad Kroeger? Bruce Dickinson? Chris Cornell? Scott Stapp?....who is it?
Mine is: Chris Cornell: odd choice but ill tell you why hes the greatest vocalist; he can yell, he can sing melodically (not sure if thats a word), he can scream, he can grunt, he can do it all. ask yourself who the best all around vocalist is...and youll find it hard to come up with a better one.

James Hetfield from Kill em All to Master of Puppets albums. He has that raw and menacing voice on those albums. Now, he sounds kinda lame. Even if he sings those classics like Master of Puppets and The Four Horsemen, he sounds like a hillbilly country singer.
The other vocalists I liked are Chuck Billy of Testament. He can switch from thrash vocals to a death growl with ease. King Diamond for melodic screaming and so are Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford. Mille Petrozza from Kreator for a menacing shrieking scream. Oderus Urungus of GWAR for outrageous thrash vocals with a hint of comedy.

I like Chris Cornell, but I think Sebastian Bach is better. I also think Zak Stevens from CircleIICircle/ Savatage is up there with 'em.
Most of the rest of the artists you listed aren't very good vocalists.
Bruce Dickenson DOES deserve props, too, though.

i have this magizine in my room but personally, Serj, Zack, Draiman, Ozzy Corey, Chris, Kurt, Chad, Scott are my favorite going in order from greatest to least. (those were the guys you said there are many more I could put in.

If you're talking about talent solely as a vocalist -- my pick would be Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy. I like him because he had a lot of emotional range to his singing -- he could sing a sad song and make it sound really depressing or sing a real rocking song and make it have a ton of attitude. Plus he could do everything you're talking about with Chris Cornell: he could sing really clean or he could growl with real intensity.

I'd put Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) way up near the top of my list. James Dewar, who was Trower's vocalist for years, is right.
I also think that Barry Hay (Golden Earring) is one of the great and underrated rock vocalists. Listen to "Kill Me (Ce Soir)" from the SWITCH album; it's just a phenomenal vocal performance.
