Do you like movies that try to raise awareness of global issues?

I know that Sierra Leone is on the mend, but I really enjoyed Blood Diamond (normally I hate violent movies). What other movies have true to life messages that try to raise socio-political awareness?

An Inconvenient Truth, definitely. There's also Invisible Children, although it's not so mainstream. Invisible Children is about the children in Uganda who have to go to shelter hideouts each night to avoid being kidnapped by the People's Liberation Army, which is basically a terrorist organization that uses child soldiers to kill people.

I hope to God Blood Diamond doesn't screw up Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone is now on it's way back, and this movie could prompt people to stop buying diamonds and force the country back into anarchy.

They should have made this movie in the 1990's when this was going on.

I don't believe I have EVER heard a more atrocious fake accent than Leonardo De Crapio's in Blood Diamond. I realize that my answer has absolutely nothing to do with your question, but I had to get the word out.

No. I watch news for global issues. I go to movies to laugh. Sometimes even the funny ones have some kind of hidden messages.

An Inconvenient Truth comes to mind, and yes I like movies like that when they do a good job of presenting a problem to the public. I think it is a very encouraging trend.

Well, I already know about Global Warming (that's why there is no snow now, thank goodness) so not really.

eventually it depends upon representation, direction of movie. If it's cool I don't have problem in liking it. for me it is the story and direction important rather than subject.
