Idiots answering questions about Ireland. Why?
I have noticed something on YahooAnswers that really annoys me and I want to know your opinion on it. So often, when a question is asked about Ireland/anything Irish, some idiot is bound to say something like begorrah, top of the mornin or some rubbish about leprechauns, basically stuff that no self-respecting Irish person would say. Why this stupidity? Who does it? Do they actually think people find it funny? Is it just for the 2 points seeing as they don't know the answer or have a relevant opinion?
Can I just add that I don't take it seriously, its just a pet peeve, and it's utterly unoriginal. Not to mention that it's really rude to answer a question and not say anything you think might be helpful/interesting/funny.
by the way Pauline, I like Irish jokes too, even jokes about Limerick (home). Its the begorrahs and leprechauns that make me cringe.

It's just stereotyping, with an attempt at humour.
Similarly, Scots conjour up images of haggis and bagpipes, French ride bicycles wearing stripey jerseys selling onions etc.
Take it with a pinch of salt.

I have noticed that as well. I am English but married into an Irish family from Waterford. The best glass makers in the world by the way. I must admit I tell Irish jokes but it only with my in-laws and they give as good as they get. It is a thing between us. But I would never dream of going on a place like this and insulting the Irish. They are beautiful people and I have never met a bad one. Just ignore the people that answer with silly answers they are not worth bothering about. How many Irish men died for us in the second world war. they should be respected not demeaned.

Some people really have nothing better to do than ascribe to idiotic stereotypes and attention-seeking, which is a testament to exactly how wretched and pathetic their lives are.
However, conversely speaking, placing questions out into a worldwide open forum is bound to gather various forms of responses, and it's in the freedom of participation that smart and dumb people can participate equally. Unfortunate as it might be, you have to take the bad with the good.

You bring up a good point. I believe you are correct on both counts. Some do it honestly thinking they are being funny and some are doing it for the point count. Try to sift thru the bullstuff for the good advice that will be there. There are good intellectual intelligent people on yahoo answers.....they just need the time to answer and you might need the patients to find it:)

i understand what you mean. It happens on each and every occasion i pass on the united kingdom and eire solutions too. I communicate approximately Sainsbury's and that they are like 'wtfff??' i understand what Walmart, Forever21, Kmart... all that stuff is, why do no longer they? in basic terms a small ingredient of people on the British version understand that we don't have Tootsie Pops and fortunate Charms. And to the persons saying we are interior the yank solutions now: we are no longer, because it does not say 'Yahoo solutions usa' on the actual. :P Hahha.

They probably want to get the 2 points, try to be funny and you are right, they are idiots for stereotyping the Irish or anyone that is different from them.

It's a perception thing. Am Scots and get similar comments, would not worry about it. Lot of Americans have fascination with Irish/Scots culture lol. Plus you get your English taking the P. It's fun and have made lots of mates in USA . Relax and enjoy it :)

The problem may be that Yahoo don't insist on only 'self-respecting Irish persons' answering questions concerning Ireland.
Perhaps you should contact them, eh?

Oh yeah, its not just about the Irish question either, its all of them, People are just gaming on here, i know they need to stop, I can't stand it when people ask the stupid questions, one guy asked a question earlier today, it went like this; I woke up and my dog was going down on me, and I'm not sure if its because i put peanut butter on it or if she really likes me. Those people should have their member ships revoked! I'm with ya man!
