Where have all the rainbows gone?

Living in the tropics, I remember seeing rainbows every time...but now, people grow without seeing a rainbow. What happened?

Smog, mostly... given the sky today isn't as clear as it used to be 10-20 years ago, the clarity of rainbow has diminished as well. For most metropolitan areas, anyway.

On my trip to Florence/Italy I noticed the sky there is unusually clear, and rainbows were all over the place, while where I live (which is a big city) you hardly see any... if at all.

The tiny drops of water that make up the prism effect to create the rainbow are now tiny drops of mud.

    Less rain ?

You will not see rainbows unless it rains somewhere between you and the horizon.

They are still there. We don't see them as well because of all the obstructions (tall buildings, etc.). Also, in many cases they are not as pronounced because of air polution, but they are still there.

Our daughter has a t-shirt stating that she chases them all, so, they could be hiding out.
