What does the David Bowie song "Oh! You Pretty Things" mean?
I know the lyrics, but what is the song about...? Please don't just send me the lyrics I can look them up if I want to.
Itunes said it was "vaguely homosexual", but I just can't get that from it... I guess if you're really looking for it...

Hi there.
According to: David Buckley (1999). Strange Fascination - David Bowie: The Definitive Story: p.115 :
"Thematically, the song has been seen as heralding "the impending obsolescence of the human race in favour of an alliance between arriving aliens and the youth of the present society".
I'm not sure ;-) Perhaps it is to do with the way in which lifestyles and attitudes differ between generations. It was written in '71, so perhaps he is referring to the rebellious and unorthodox flower power generation of the sixties, which would tie in with the reference to the "mamas and papas". It seems to be telling the stuffy, adult authoritarians that they are on their way out... it's a shame how things actually turn out eh?!
