Is there a shelf life on golf balls?

I've got a few dozen Pro V1's that are approx 3-5 years old. Are they still good or do they break down over time? If so how long?

I have not heard of a shelf life for golf balls and any ball manufactured within the last 10-15 years should still be good (wound balls excluded).

Check out the link below, which states "Golf balls are made to perform well, even after being stored in the back of a closet for several years".

naa they should be just fine.

balls that you don't want to use would be ones with major cuts or scuffs or the like. these don't perform near as well, but more importantly than that they will damage the face of your clubs.

I have damaged many a face by hitting range balls with bad cuts and scraps on them. Now I look at every range ball before I hit it and place the cut or scrap so it doesn't make contact with the face of my club.

The golf balls are bad, don't use them, send them to me instead and I will recycle them properly.

    ...........

Seriously, they're still good, use (lose) them on the golf course. A good set of Balls last a man a lifetime.

They will break down over time. Look for slices on them.
