Their is no way you are way to late to start playing, because a lot of the girls on tour start playing proffesionaly when they are 16 or 17. And when you say a grand slam if you mean one part of the grand slam or all four tournaments. Because your odds of winning one are probaly better than your odds of winning the lottery, but if you want to win the grand slam all 4 parts you might as well start playing the lottery to get the money. Because you have a better chance of winning the lottery than winning a proffesional grand slam. Only about 10 players have won grand slams in tennis. And only about 175 people have one individual grand slam tournaments. So go play the lottery you might win.

listen to me and listen to me carefully, please disreguard all other answers becuase they obviously dont play tennis. I am sorry but there is no chance you could ever be pro let alone win a grand slam and any credible tennis coach will tell you that. I am a college level player and I started relatively late and I have always regreted not playing when I was young. I caught on pretty quickly but becuase I didnt play at a Tennis academy during high school (were they play 5 hours a day) I stand no chance of making a living playing tennis. Tennis is with out a doubt the hardest sport to learn there is so much skill and practice involved. I played many other sports like basketball and baseball and did very well becuase i was quite athletic. However when i started playing tennis my athleticism could not overcome the fact that i just simply didnt play as much as the top players. I ended up doing very well though I am great player and continue to get better. I know a few kids trying to make it on the tour and they are greath athletes and thier parents were great players, they also have been playing everyday since they could hold a raquet at 4 years old and they probably still wont make it. In tennis only 150 players can actually make a living and they are competing against the entire world, unlike baseball or basketball were over 500 players can make it and compete with in America. Im sorry but even if your were Roger Federer himself and played everyday for the next seven years you still might not be able to do it, and that is the gods honest truth. I have had much heartbreak figuring that out becuase I was once a dreamer like you. However that being said I do not regret playing tennis it is a beautiful game by far better then any other sport, it is something you can have for a lifetime, and with hard work you (like playing 2 hours a day until you finish hs) could play in college and develope a skill that will bring you joy for a lifetime.

I agree 100% with J K. Tennis is a sport, that you either have to be at a tennis academy playing 5 hours a day when you are prepping to go pro and at least playing as much junior tennis as possible (even if coached by a paretn). If at 16 you have never played, you could in 2 years, be good enough to play in college, or maybe even on the satalitte tours. Just remember, most top ranked college players never make it into the Top 50. Most top ranked high school players, never make it professionally at all. Never say never is the correct attitude, but unless you have money to go pay for the top coach available right now and do nothing but practice, the likelihood of ever playing on the pro tour is extremely low.

If you don't know tennis now, there's no way you win a grand slam. Have fun playing at the park!

Never say never! There are many factors to consider about yourself personally and those close to you in helping achieve your goal. For example, things like your skill level, dedication, and ablity to perservere. Things about those around you, like are they supportive and will they help you financially. Tennis can become very expensive considering your going to need to seek top quality instruction to become a great player. If you truely believe in your talent/skill level potential at the age of 16 then give it your best. Enter tournaments around your town and try playing the best players and seek advice on getting better. A final thought, don't limit your abilities on one sport because in your quest to compete you might find your a natural at another activtiy. It could be bowling, golf, or perhaps a professional pool player. Good Luck in your Journeys !
