Why Won't Congress CLOSE OUR BORDERS!?

The people who pay the lobbyists make a lot of money off of systematically undermining the concept of American 'fair pay'. They support trade agreements that promote off sourcing to areas with below poverty level wages and no need to follow expensive worker protection and environmental law. They support skilled jobs being telecommuted from abroad for cheaper wages, whereever they can do this. They support illegal immigration and mass immigration to obtain workers who will do the work at prices Americans won't. They support infrastructure projects like a highway from Mexican ports to Canada and the east coast, to pull a third of goods from US ports and truckers and the people who work to support US trucks and transportation - with security cut back to dangerous levels.

We have to change our government.

I have a better question for you: why won't congress work seriously on creating a more equal world where people do not have to risk their lives sneaking through mountains and deserts in the dark to be able to feed their families and be sure that their children get an education and basic medical care? As long as there are people who live in places where going to a school with no electricity, no running water, 50 children per teacher, and no books until the age of 11 or 12 is considered a luxury, they will try to come to the United States so their children can be educated. As long as there are hospitals that lack sheets, blankets, syringes, and even penicillin, people will try to come to the US so that if they are in an accident, the emergency room might have a chance at saving their lives. And freedom of speech, one of the most basic tenants of this country protects the RIGHT of people to speak the language that they wish to speak, just as it protects your right to write such ignorant and hateful rants. Life is not fair, and you are on the winning side. Stop complaining.

Because this is the USofA. Immigration built this country. The children of these immigrants will speak english and be productive citizens. Ask an American Indian what he thinks about illegal immigrants, and he might tell you to get out.

well, you must remember that the "do nothing" 109th congress met only 108 days {fewest ever}, that was a perfect time to do it.

You want the simple answer? BOTH parties want the immigrants to vote for them. Period. That's the answer. If the immigrants happen to be illegal...oh, well. We just give them amnesty. Try getting amnesty if you were to say,illegally immigrate to just about any other country on earth.

That is what the United States is all about. If you don't like AMERICANS who choose not to speak English, stay out of any "big city."

you seem to have heightened self importance issues. First of all,

1)You have not studied law, so don't pretend to know everything about what's best for the country.

2)Tell me, are you an immigrant? Were your parents, grandparents, great parents immigrants? do you think the United States just appeared out of thin air one random day? We are all immigrants, and lately it's just been easy to use recent immigrants as scapegoats for the country's deep seeded problems.

3)The easiest thing for people to do is to reject ideas, and isolate themselves from other perspectives. The true fruit of a productive individual is when he puts others before himself and *understands* the contradictory point of view, rather than ridicule it and make himself feel more important by treating others like ****.

You are very misinformed. I don't know where you get your news but Australia does NOT have closed borders.
