Can Soy Sauce be used for burns? If so, how does it work?

I heard this on the People's Pharmacy Radio program, and those are the only references I can find to it. I tried this on a minor but painful burn on my fingertips and it really seemed to help.

I REALLY don't think that sound wise!!!!!

salt will dehydrate your skin even more, I can't imagine why anyone would suggest that to you.

first aid for burns and scalds:

Start cooling the burn immediately under running water for at least 10 minutes

Continue to pour copious amounts of cold water over the burn for at least ten minutes or until the pain is relieved.

remove jewellery or clothing from the affected area - unless it is sticking to the skin.

Cover the burn with clean, non-fluffy material to protect from infection. Cloth, a clean plastic bag or kitchen film all make good dressings.

    Treat for shock.

the nurse who taught me first aid said that anything cold and liquid will do in an emergency eg

if you're out drinking and someone gets burnt at the bar pour your pint over it,

    or

if someone gets burnt on the bus home from the store, pour your milk or juice over it

obviously this is not a good idea if the liquid is harmful to the skin- (I'd never use shampoo or something odd like soy sauce!)

then think about what to do next

I was also taught to go to hospital if the burn area is the same as or larger than a 50 pence piece ( that is to say with a diameter just under 30mm)

You are not alone every cook has to start somewhere and you have the interest to cook that is the main thing. The longer you cook the better you will get at it. There are so many instructions on line and TV you will continue to learn as you go. Good luck! When I make stir fry dishes. I start out with the meat it takes the longest. Many stir fry dishes say to marinate the meat depends on what you are cooking. If you are not then add the meat to the hot oiled pan stir fry it until just about done remove to a plate and keep warm. have your veggies all chopped and make your sauce so it's ready at the stove to combine with the meat the sauce you need can be as simple as this: 1/4 cup soy sauce 1 clove garlic minced 2 tablespoons brown sugar 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1 small piece of fresh ginger peeled and minced or 1 teaspoon powdered ginger fresh is better 1/2 cup or more of chicken broth or 1 cup water and 1 chicken bullion cube Mix these together and have ready Back to the meat pan....add the veggies that you cooked the meat in. Add the fresh chopped veggies and stir until they are almost done then put the meat back in and stir more add the soy mixture and stir until it becomes thick. It depends on the meat and veggies how much sauce you need to make. Give it a try and see how it works out. You can always change it up the next time. The teriyaki and soy sauces are salty so be careful how much you use. Go easy on it first you can always add more at the table. The cornstarch in the sauce thickens the sauce and gives it that shine. Good luck hope this helps Have a great summer!
