My mom's side is from Cuba and in some latin countries, on new years, you eat 12 grapes for good luck, 1 for every month. Grapes are a symbol of health, wealth and fun.
My new tradition I've adopted though is 12 shots for good luck... I guess I Americanized myself lol.

on New Years my friend'd coven comes over and they do a cleansing circle into the new year. My family doesn't know they are there and we always seem to have good luck the following year. It is amazing what people would contribute happiness and luck to when they don't know about a spiritual happening.
My family believes that when a family or a group of friends or both get together and treat eachother like family and long time friends the luck and love flows from one person to the next until the room overflows with it.
Happy New Year!
Blessed Be.

My mother always made blackeye peas and hog jowls for New Year, she said it was for luck. Now it is a tradition that we still do. If it works I hate to think what our year would have been like without them. This tradition came from the south and I have no idea why it is supposed to be lucky.

I stay off the road on new years eve for luck.
It all started one year when I kept getting pulled over on my way to see some friends that I havent seen in a age. Not only that but I passed a few accidents that night as well. So for luck I stay off the roads and call it good.

Well you have to have ya house cleaned before the new year rings in, you have to have all ya bills paid in full, On New Year's Day you eat cabbage (for wealth), black eyed peas (for luck) and hog jowl...... (don't know what that does), And a great big HAM. Always remember that whatever you are doing when the new year rings in is what you will be doing all year long.......

I see alot of people eat black eyed peas. So do I. I have absolutely no idea why I do it. All of my family has done it since I can remember. I didn't eat them last year, so maybe that's why 2006 has been such an unlucky year!

None of are are perfect, and we need to try to do better in our lives. New Years is a good time, it's the first of the year, and ideal for a resolution. Even though you may not keep all your resolutions, it is worth the try, and once in a while you do keep them.

Eat black-eyed peas for dinner. I don't know why but it's a long standing tradition.
