I unplug my desktop network cable and plug it into my laptop, I renewed my IP address, but still can't connect

    Does resetting the modem [turn off, wait 1 minute and turn on] have any effect?

    Do you have MAC address filtering enabled in your hub/modem/router? If so, you will need to add your laptop's MAC address to the filter. To find out your laptop's mac address, click Start > Run > then type cmd (or command, depending on your OS) and type ipconfig /all. This will display your MAC address (Physical Address).
